The Role of Pricing in the Marketing of Goods and Services

Marketing can involve a lot of different factors with an innumerable list potential implications. Of these price is the most important factor, but that doesn’t make it all encompassing.

The marketplace is littered with a number of examples of the price of goods, where one product is cheaper than an alternative, isn’t always guaranteed to show the cheaper option as the more successful product. So, because of this, you can draw the conclusion that through the effective use of other factors you can overcome a price disadvantage in both products and services.

The way this works isn’t always so clear cut, due largely to the large number of potential contributing factors. It could be due to the design of the products successfully capturing people’s attention. It could be because the company selling the more expensive product or service benefits from greater brand awareness. Both of these are great ways for a business to overcome a pricing disadvantage.

While it can be difficult to accomplish, greater exposure of a more expensive product can skew the number of products sold to a large extent. It is worth bearing in mind however, that this can be an expensive process and may require the price of the product to rise even further.
